The Almeria-based multinational Vellsam Bioactive Materials and the University of Granada have this week signed a collaboration agreement for the creation of the Vellsam-UGR Chair for Innovation in Nutrition and Health, which will promote research, dissemination and the organisation of dissemination conferences.
The agreement was signed by the CEO of Vellsam, María Zamora, and the Rector of the University of Granada, Pilar Aranda. This chair will focus on research into the effects of fruit and vegetable products and bioactive substances against cancer and in favour of cardiovascular health.
The signing ceremony was also attended by the CEO of Vellsam, Francisco Castillo, and the Marketing Director, María Castillo, as well as the Director of the Chair and Professor of Human Anatomy and Embryology at the University of Granada, Juan Antonio Marchal; the assistant director of the Chair, Alberto Zamora, from the Corporación de Salut del Maresme i la Selva and the University of Girona; the secretary of the Chair and professor of the Department of Nutrition and Bromatology of the UGR, Vito Verardo; and the director of Social Projection, Sponsorship and Patronage of the UGR, Antonio Marín.

The Chair foresees, among others, research activities and transfer of research results, dissemination activities such as the organisation of technical and technological dissemination conferences, publications on topics of interest within the scope of the Chair and the supervision of theses.
Vellsam Materias Bioactivas has been working for decades as a pioneer in the research, design and production of biotechnological solutions (biostimulants and plant nutrients) with the aim of improving the way in which food is grown all over the world.
This Chair represents the expansion of the business classroom that was launched between the two entities in 2020, following a previous collaboration in another research chair against cancer stem cells.
